AI Novel Continuation

Pick up where the story left off and write the next chapter in your voice

AI Novel Continuation

Before continuing, Maliang Writer reads your last chapter, the chapter outline and current character and setting archives, then writes the next chapter in your voice.

Why AI Continuations So Often Don't Fit the Earlier Text

If you continue a novel with an ordinary chat tool, three problems are common:

  • Forgotten story so far: a character is injured in one chapter and in perfect health in the next
  • A different voice: the earlier text is light and sarcastic, and the continuation suddenly turns heavy and lyrical
  • Leaving the outline: halfway through, it burns the plot of the next few chapters ahead of time

The reason is simple: the model only sees the few passages you pasted. It doesn't know the current state of the book or how you write.

What Maliang Writer Reads Before Continuing

What Maliang Writer Reads Before Continuing

Before every chapter, the writer agent receives a “story-so-far package” for your book:

  • The end of the previous chapter: it picks up where you stopped
  • This chapter's outline: it knows where this chapter needs to get to and doesn't spend later plot early
  • Current archives for the characters and settings in this chapter: power level, injuries, relationships, items and numbers, all as of the end of the previous chapter
  • Chapter archives from earlier chapters, foreshadowing and the in-story timeline: it remembers which threads are still open and what season it is in the book now
  • Your earlier text as a sample: it measures sentence length, paragraph length, dialogue share and punctuation habits from your earlier text and writes within that range

If you've rearranged your table of contents, chapter outlines and text can get out of alignment. When continuing, it matches the right entry by chapter title, number and plot, tells you in its report where things don't line up, and doesn't rewrite a chapter that's already written.

Writing in Your Voice

A continuation should read like you wrote it, not like another author took over:

  • It reads your earlier text first: it identifies the narrative voice of the book and works the protagonist's in-the-moment judgments into the narration
  • It tells light from heavy: in a light book, characters banter and joke; in a serious book, it doesn't force in gags; and in a light book, a heavy scene still gets written with weight
  • Revision experience carries forward: the passages you changed and the feedback you sent back are passed to the writer of the next chapter

How closely it matches depends on the sample text. If you're just starting a book and have no earlier text, give it a few passages of your own writing first, or pick the style of one or two reference works.

Already Have a Novel? Continue It

A half-finished book can be imported into Maliang Writer and continued: after importing the text, you can first build the archives for the whole book (it estimates the credits needed first, only starts after you confirm, and you can stop at any time), then continue chapter by chapter as described above.

After each chapter is written, changes to the text appear as a before/after comparison in the editor; if you're not happy, you can revert part by part, or undo the round and write it again.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can AI continuation match my own writing style?

Before continuing, it reads your earlier text and writes to its sentence length, paragraphs, dialogue share and voice, and it passes your revision feedback on to the next chapter. How close it gets depends on how much sample text there is; we recommend providing at least a few chapters of your own writing.

Will an AI continuation contradict earlier settings?

Before continuing, it loads the current archives for the characters and settings in the chapter, plus foreshadowing and the in-story timeline, to avoid contradictions as far as possible. After each chapter, the archives are updated from the text, and anything that conflicts with existing entries is listed as pending confirmation for you to judge. For long novels, we still recommend that authors do a final check of key chapters.

Can I import a finished novel and continue it?

Yes. After importing, you can build archives for the whole book. The system estimates credits first, organizes in the background once you confirm, and then continues from the chapter where you stopped.

How many chapters can it continue at once?

You can write one chapter at a time, or say how many chapters in a row you want; each chapter follows its own chapter outline and the archives are updated after it's written.

Can I edit what the AI continuation writes?

Yes. The result is written directly into your chapter, the editor shows a before/after comparison, and you can keep or revert each part, or undo the round, change your request and resend it.
